Canon Eos 3000V 35mm Film Slr Camera Review
The Canon EOS 3000V is a 35mm film SLR camera that is compact, affordable and stylishly designed. As with other cameras in Canon’s EOS lineup, it goes by several alternate names – in North America, EOS Rebel K2, and in Japan, EOS Kiss Lite. Preceded by the EOS 3000 and EOS 3000N, the 3000V expands upon the feature set offered by these earlier models for a modern, updated experience.
The EOS 3000V is extremely easy to use. It is obvious that Canon conceived this camera from the ground up to be as user-friendly as possible. The familiar Canon control dial has been shifted to the top deck’s right end, allowing easy one-handed operation of the camera. 12 preset shooting modes and 5 exposure modes enables you to quickly but surely create just the right settings for any shot. In addition to this, the 3000V is capable of up to 9 exposures, further increasing its flexibility and ability to perform under a range of lighting conditions.
The EOS 3000V comes equipped with an excellent metering system. Canon’s Evaluative Through-The-Lens (E-TTL) metering system allows the 3000V to automatically calculate the optimum amount of exposure for any given shot. Before snapping the shot, the camera’s speedlites produce quick pre-flashes which are read by the in-built sensors. This allows the 3000V to instantly adjust the level of flash intensity for the best compensation under a variety of lighting conditions. On an added note, the Flash Unit is mounted high above the camera, and this elevated position means that red-eye is greatly reduced.
The 3000V’s metering system works together with its auto-focus capabilities to make for great shots. Basically, the camera’s 7 focusing points automatically align the subject inside of the frame, so even off-centre shots get just the right amount of focus. When the shot is actually taken, the 3000V takes into account the shooting mode chosen, and feedback from the metering and focusing systems, and adjusts the camera settings in order to take the best possible shot. Of course, users always have the option of adjusting these manually as well. This allows for even more customisability for those “control freak” moments.
The EOS 3000V also has AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) capabilities, which allow it to shoot several shots in a row, while changing the exposure on the fly. This feature is useful when you’re trying to capture a moving subject, for example, or for those make-or-break moments where it’s absolutely necessary to at least get one perfect shot – just snap a few now, and pick the best one at development. EV step differences are adjustable in ½ step increments in the -2 to +2 range.
All in all, the EOS 3000V is definitely a solid choice for an entry-level SLR Film Camera. If you’re on the market for one, don’t overlook this affordable yet feature-packed model.
